Best AI governance certification for India: an honest comparison

The global AI governance credentials are built around the EU AI Act, NIST and ISO standards. None of the syllabi we checked names MeitY's India AI Governance Guidelines of November 2025 or the DPDP Act. Here is what each one does cover, and who it suits.

Fees and formats checked on issuer sites, 26 October 2026
The short answer
  • Want the most widely recognised global AI governance credential: IAPP AIGP.
  • Building or auditing an AI management system for certification: ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor (PECB, BSI and others).
  • Already hold CISA and audit AI systems: ISACA AAIA.
  • Prefer a short in-person programme from an Indian industry body: DSCI DCAGP.
  • Need the Indian layer, meaning the MeitY guidelines, the DPDP Act and sector regulators, applied to real AI use cases: dcomply Academy's AI Governance Officer India Practitioner.

Before you pay for any of them.

The questions that separate a credential that helps you do the job from one that only looks good on a profile.

Which rulebook does it teach? EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF and ISO/IEC 42001 are the global anchors. Indian deployers also answer to MeitY's guidelines, the DPDP Act and sector regulators.
Policy role or management-system role? AIGP and DCAGP are about governance policy. ISO/IEC 42001 courses are about building and auditing a certifiable management system.
Are there prerequisites? ISACA AAIA needs an existing designation such as CISA. ISO lead credentials grade you by years of experience.
What does it cost to keep? Most global credentials need CPE hours and a maintenance fee every one to three years.
Is the content current? AI rules moved fast in 2025 and 2026. Check the syllabus date before you pay.

The options, compared.

Where dcomply Academy fits.

We run one of the options above, so read this section with that in mind.

AI Governance Officer India Practitioner

Built for the person who becomes the named owner of AI governance inside an Indian organisation. It covers the Indian layer the global credentials leave out, and pairs naturally with AIGP or an ISO/IEC 42001 course. For the management-system standard itself, dcomply Academy also runs an ISO/IEC 42001 practitioner course.

  • 12 modules and 60 lessons: MeitY's India AI Governance Guidelines, the DPDP Act applied to AI, sector regulator expectations and the EU AI Act for comparison.
  • Each legal claim in a lesson is linked to the document it rests on.
  • Final exam: 45 questions from a 70-item pool, 90 minutes, 75% to pass. Certificate with a public verification link.

Questions people actually ask.

Q 01
Is there a mandatory AI governance certification in India?

No. MeitY's India AI Governance Guidelines, released on 5 November 2025, set out principles and recommendations. They do not require any individual certification.

Q 02
Does AIGP cover Indian law?

Its current body of knowledge, effective 2 February 2026, names the EU AI Act, US laws, OECD principles, NIST AI RMF and ISO standards. It does not name Indian law or the MeitY guidelines.

Q 03
AIGP or ISO/IEC 42001: which should I take?

AIGP suits governance and policy roles. ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Implementer or Lead Auditor suits people building or auditing an AI management system for certification. Many teams need both skills.

Q 04
What changed in Indian AI governance in 2026?

In April 2026 the government constituted the AI Governance and Economic Group and a Technology and Policy Expert Committee to support it. In February 2026 MeitY notified amendments to the IT Intermediary Rules on synthetically generated information.

Q 05
Can a chartered accountant take ISACA AAIA?

Not on the CA alone. AAIA requires an active CISA or another designation on ISACA's list, and ICAI's CA is not on that list.
